USING ITALIAN HIGHWAYS – IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR RENTAL CAR CUSTOMERS🚗
Italian highways (Autostrade) have different toll lanes. Please make sure you use the correct lane and always pay the toll.
🚫 DO NOT USE TELEPASS LANES
Telepass lanes are reserved for vehicles equipped with a Telepass electronic device.
Our rental cars do not have a Telepass device for your use.
Look for the “Telepass” sign and avoid these lanes.
💳 USE THE “PAY TOLL” LANES
When entering the highway, choose a lane marked:
“PAGA PEDAGGIO”
or
“CARTE / CONTANTI”
At the entrance:
1. TAKE THE TICKET
Press the button and take the ticket from the machine.
IMPORTANT: Even if the barrier is already open, you must still take the ticket if the machine issues one. Keep the ticket safely until you leave the highway.
🛣️ AT THE EXIT
When you leave the highway:
2. INSERT YOUR TICKET
Put the ticket into the machine.
3. PAY THE TOLL
The machine will calculate the amount based on your journey. You can normally pay using the available payment methods, such as credit/debit card or cash.
⚠️ WHAT IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY ENTER A TELEPASS LANE?
DO NOT PANIC AND DO NOT REVERSE.
If you accidentally enter a Telepass lane, do not assume that the open barrier means you have paid the toll.
If a ticket is issued, take it and keep it.
If no ticket is issued, continue safely and follow the instructions provided by the toll operator for paying the unpaid toll. Do not reverse or make dangerous maneuvers on the highway.
🔴 VERY IMPORTANT
AN OPEN BARRIER DOES NOT MEAN THE TOLL IS FREE OR HAS BEEN PAID.
You are responsible for paying the highway toll.
If the toll is not paid, additional charges or penalties may apply, and the rental company may receive a request for payment related to the vehicle.

ENTER → TAKE THE TICKET → KEEP IT → EXIT → INSERT THE TICKET → PAY
When in doubt, choose the “PAY TOLL” lane, not Telepass.
